LE JEU DE LANGUES ET DE MOTS DANS L’ESPACE LINGUISTIQUE DE LA VILLE

Abstract


The interest for the co-functioning of the linguistic space of a city and its reception by its addressees, the city dwellers, is increasing its presence in the current linguistic and pragmatic researches. In this article we shall focus our attention on the semantic and pragmatic effects of the play of languages and words often used in order to arouse the curiosity and the interest of the inhabitants of a city on different social, economic or cultural aspects conveyed by advertising or informational displays. The understanding of the message constructed by means of this process triggers many cognitive processes in its addressees due to the arising interpretive efforts. The play of languages and words brings out a great diversity of textual processes often assisted by images. We are also witnessing a "hybridization" of languages that produce game effects, starting from the condition of the knowledge of the languages involved in these new linguistic structures. Moreover, it is necessary to take into account the colours, the writings, the image-text co-positioning etc.
